Frank H. Buck Scholarships

Eva B. Buck established the Frank H. Buck Scholarships in honor of her husband, and the first scholarships were made in 1990. To date, the Frank H. Buck Scholarship has been awarded to 270 students. The scholarship is available to students from the twelfth grade forward, who must live or attend school within the boundaries of the Congressional District that Frank Buck served — Napa, Solano, Yolo, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Contra Costa counties.
The Frank H. Buck Scholarships benefit exceptional, ambitious young people who possess leadership potential as well as a commitment to their school, community and family. Financial need and high academic standing are important, but are not necessarily prerequisites. Race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, age and national origin have no influence in the selection of scholars.
Buck Scholarship funding is expected to supplement any other financial aid or awards that a Buck Scholar may receive. This will ensure all the ordinary costs of an education are covered. These costs usually include tuition and related fees, housing, board, books, educational supplies and some travel to and from school. Personal or other non-educational expenses are the responsibility of the Buck Scholars.
Types of Funding Provided
The majority of applicants for The Frank H. Buck Scholarships are high school seniors planning to attend four-year collegiate institutions. The Scholarship is awarded for their undergraduate program only and they may be considered for graduate school funding at a later date.
Applicants applying for graduate school funding, including medical school or law school, are welcome to apply.
Support is also available for community college or trade school education.
Scholars are encouraged to meet one another on occasion at their schools and at the Foundation to exchange ideas and common experiences; and to communicate with one another and with the Foundation regularly. There are two scholar gatherings each year, one in December and one in June.
